The memories of battles and the valiance of Marakkar still linger here

It is fascinating to think how certain destinations that had a turbulent history amaze us today with their peaceful ambience and charm. Iringal – a picturesque hamlet in Kozhikode is one such destination. The homeland of Kunjali Marakkar IV who was the naval admiral of the Zamorin, Iringal is today a captivating tourist spot visited by tourists from all over the world.

Leaving the scars of a troublesome past behind, Iringal welcomes guests today with a host of amazing sights and experiences. “Sargaalaya” – the Kerala Arts & Crafts Village at Iringal is a place where you will be able to witness various artistic creations coming to life. Implemented by the Tourism Department of the Government of Kerala, Sargaalaya operates as a model for Responsible Tourism.

Crafted by traditional artisans, the products produced here can be purchased by visitors. You will even get to learn a thing or two about the crafting of these products. Also welcoming visitors to Iringal is the Kunjali Marakkar Memorial. The memorial is built on the household of the successors of Kunjali Marakkar and explains the history of Marakkar along with displaying some of the relics used in those times.
