Beaches are amazing spots to hang out on. The waves, the sands, the sun, the atmosphere – everything about beaches is simply charming. Some beaches have more to them – like the historic importance that this one holds. It was right here that Vasco Da Gama and his crew of Portuguese sailors landed, changing the course of not just India’s, but also the world’s history.
Located about 16 km away from Kozhikode City, Kappad Beach is a spot that saw many significant events. It is right here through which the spice trade flourished in the Malabar Coast. The European invasions of India began after Gama’s visits to the Indian coast through Kappad. This itself is a good reason to visit the beach and feel the old-world charm veiled in its soul. However, the beach is also amazingly beautiful with rocks and small hillocks that add to its elegance.
The landscape is rich with coconut groves. The tranquil and picturesque setting of the beach attracts thousands of people to this shore. There is a rock formation that protrudes into the sea which gives the beach a distinctive look. Also, there is an 800-year-old temple nearby.
