There are some beaches that define a destination; being an integral part of the locale’s socio-cultural fabric and serving as the hottest spot for leisure, recreation and entertainment. Kozhikode is a city that boasts of many beaches; but one shore stands out, as the nerve-centre of all activities – the Kozhikode Beach.
Kozhikode Beach is accessible through four overbridges from the city of Calicut. In past, the beach area was considered the centre of the city along with Valiyangadi. Today, the centre of commercial activities might have shifted to other parts of Kozhikode, but Kozhikode Beach continues to be a centre of attraction and fascination. The beach is adorned with paved stones and illumination. Various public meetings and social gatherings are held on the beach.
It is a point where both the residents of the city and tourists come to enjoy leisurely evenings and the majestic sight of sunset. A walk up to the Dolphin’s Point on the beach gives you joyous sights of playful dolphins. Also, there is an Aquarium and the Lion’s Park for Children – both adding even more entertainment to the visitors to the beach.
