If you can point out the single most significant factor that makes Kerala a tourist’s paradise, it has got to be the lush greenery that covers the length and breadth of the state. Kozhikode district has its fair share of this greenery that has attracted millions of people to the destination over the years; and while thinking of that, one image stands out for its breathtaking beauty and majesty – that of the Thamarassery Ghat, popularly known as the “Thamarassery Churam”.
A chain of hairpin curves, the meandering road that offers stunning images of the mountain ranges, and the freshness of green valleys that offer once-in-a-lifetime views – Thamarassery Churam is indeed a pathway to bliss. Along the trail, you get to enjoy the views of stupendous landscapes, wildlife sanctuaries, dams, hills, valleys, plantations, waterfalls and all the amazing sights that you will fall in love with.
It was the British, with the help of tribals, that built and developed the Churam, primarily to transport spices from Wayanad to the Beypore Port in Kozhikode. Today, the Ghat is being further developed and will continue to be a source of great fascination to visitors who take the route.
