Thekkepuram Village

Thekkepuram is a village rich in many water bodies that add to its beauty

There are some places, that no matter the modernity of the nearby locales, will continue to reflect the traditional beauty of the olden times. They will remain largely untouched by all the contemporary bustles of life and exude a charm that is so very unique. Thekkepuram Village in Kozhikode is one such destination that will amaze you with this olden-time enigma. It retains its identity despite all the developments happening in the city of Kozhikode and its surroundings.

It has the Arabian Sea to its west, the Kallayi River to the south, the Kozhikode city to the east and the fishing village of Nellayi to the north. What will fascinate you about Thekkepuram is the majesty and splendour of several traditional Kerala homes that are all over the village. They reflect the grace of medieval Kerala architecture. There are several mosques and other edifices too that boast of this architectural brilliance.

There is a large pond, locally known as “chira” with stone-paved steps that lead to the water and laterite benches around it. The Thekkepuram beach is another local attraction, with accessibility to a splendid port lighthouse. The village is also known for the communal harmony it maintains.
