Lighthouses are a source of amusement to travellers all over the world. They were widely constructed in the past primarily to offer navigational support to sailors. With the advent of more modern and sophisticated navigational systems, most lighthouses around the globe might have become dysfunctional. However, they continue to amuse as a testimony to the bygone eras.
The Thikkodi Lighthouse is 108 ft tall. The lighthouse is elegantly painted with black and white bands. Located in Kadalur near Koyilandy, it is also known as Kadalur Point Lighthouse. It was built over a shipwreck, the remains of which can be seen here to this day. Thikkodi Lighthouse is abundantly blessed with natural beauty. The area that surrounds the lighthouse is beautiful with coconut and palm plantations.
The mystic and splendid island of Velliyamkallu adds grace to the locale on one side and the majesty of the vast Arabian sea offers a stunning visual treat to every visitor to the lighthouse. The area is also visited by several species of migratory birds that throng the shore during winter times. Thikkodi Beach is located nearby, which is also an ideal destination for sea lovers.
